Riga is the capital city of Latvia. The international airport serving the city is the Riga International Airport. This is state-owned company, with the government of Latvia being the owner of all the airport shares.

History of Riga International Airport

In 1973, the international airport was built to replace the Spilve Airport which was outdated. Its renovation continued until 2001 to become a well modernized airport. During the last six years of independence, Riga International Airport has tried to promote the development of air transport. It has cared for the Airport’s modernization, improvement of services and the quality and moved towards the standards of developed countries.
